Sister Rita Marie developed her creative talents by crocheting, embroidering, cross stitching, creweling and recycling greeting cards. Her work in Minneapolis was evidence of her compassionate and helpful nature. She served as a program assistant at Cabrini House in Minneapolis for 14 years. Sister Erlinda was from a large, very close family in Cebolla, New Mexico. Three years later cancer prevented her from performing all of her duties there but she continued on as an assistant to the new parish administrator. From 1974 to 1977, Sister Ladonna served as treasurer for the FSPA Central Province in Hiawatha, Iowa. In 2017, Sister Gertrude moved to Villa St. Joseph Community members, family and friends will remember Sister Gertrude as quiet, cheerful, and always having a smile and kind word for others. After three years in that position she resigned, was married and began raising her five children: Marianne, George, Pat, Susan and Tom. The eldest of 13 children, she remembers growing up on the farm with her younger brothers and sisters. At her baptism, she was given the name Marie Magdalen. When she returned home she again asked about becoming a sister. Her low-key personality, sense of humor and ability to go with the flow drew people to her. Her smile and hearty laugh were both infectious. She and her older sisters walked to school and enjoyed the flowers and nature along the way. In 1982, she moved to Waterloo, Iowa, to resume her ministry of occupational therapy, serving mainly children with severe disabilities at River Hills School. While at Marquette, sheplayed the organ at Gesu Parish and after retiring from teaching English, she ministered as receptionist at the parish until she moved to St. Rose Convent in December of 2016. There she met the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA). She taught for 33 years in elementary schools in Iowa, Washington, Oregon and Wisconsin. During the seventh grade at St. Marys School in Auburndale, Sister Dorothy began hearing a faint call to religious life.
