Kusuo attempts multiple time travels to back when he was in second grade and when a student named Takashi had bullied Touma but young Kusuo had helped Touma in many ways (healing his wound, causing Takashi to spin around a bar, and causing a classroom mess), leading to Touma's suspicion that Kusuo was a psychic.
